The object of the present invention is a composition for hair comprising at least one alkalizing agent and a cationic polymer consisting of a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone and vinylimidazole and a homopolymer of dimethyl dially ammonium chloride. Cationic charge density of the polymer is preferably between 3 and 4 mEq/g and particularly 3.7 mEq/g at pH 7.0.
